Louisiana French: Preserve & Evolve

Louisiana French: Preserve & Evolve

Louisiana French: Preserve & Evolve is a multi-lingual traveling exhibition organized by CODOFIL and supported by a 2024 LEH Rebirth Grant and the State of Louisiana. Louisiana French—and its sister language, Louisiana Creole/Kouri-Vini—have shaped our state immeasurably, but they are often misunderstood.

This exhibition seeks to correct these misunderstandings, valorize local language, and highlight Louisiana’s place in the greater French-speaking world, while recognizing the contributions of Louisiana language activists and inspiring individuals to reclaim their heritage languages.

Since 2024, this traveling exhibition has been displayed in Eunice, Abbeville, Jennings, and Lafayette. It is currently being displayed at the E.D. White Historic Site in Thibodaux, LA, until October 18, 2025.

If you’re interested in hosting the exhibition in your community, contact us.
