This Escadrille Louisiane pathway is for highly motivated Louisiana certified teachers who speak French and who are interested in teaching in a French immersion program in Louisiana elementary (PK-8) public schools.
Program Description
Selected candidates will need to fulfill the state’s requirements to add Elementary Education Grades 1-5 to an existing, valid Louisiana teaching certificate. Currently, this entails the following:
- Earn passing score on PRAXIS Elementary Education Multiple Subjects (test code 7001; this includes all four subtests as well as exam 7002);
- Earn passing score on PRAXIS Principles of Learning and Teaching K-6 (test code 5622);
- Complete nine (9) semester hours in the teaching of reading and literacy;
- Earn passing score on PRAXIS Elementary Education: Teaching Reading (test code 7002)
The EL program will cover the following costs:
- Reimbursement for the DELF B2 exam if the candidate does not currently hold such a certificate
- Reimbursement for the PRAXIS Elementary Education Multiple Subjects (test code 7001)
- Reimbursement for the PRAXIS Principles of Learning and Teaching K-6 (test code 5622)
Please note that one reimbursement will be made per above-mentioned PRAXIS exam. Also, the program does not cover PRAXIS study materials or exam retakes. Upon obtaining the Elementary Education 1-5 certification, and maintaining the French K-12 certification, the individual will be considered an Escadrille graduate/teacher. They will be eligible for a $14,000 stipend, paid over a period of 3 years, as long as they teach French immersion full time at a public or public charter elementary or middle school in Louisiana.
