Today, there are over 40 French Tables active across the state. These are free community gatherings led by dedicated volunteers, known as Capitaines, who work to keep Louisiana’s linguistic heritage vibrant by practicing French, Louisiana French, and Louisiana Creole.
The Tables are informal, social meetups held at coffee shops, libraries, and other public spaces. Open to all proficiency levels—from native speakers to those just beginning their journey—these events offer a welcoming space to learn, share, and teach.
